The Eternal Depths is BlackTalon's most ambitious endgame dungeon system — a massive, multi-region journey that takes players from shallow underwater caves all the way to the celestial skies. With 7 unique regions, challenging bosses, NPC-driven questlines, a depth progression system, and exclusive crafting rewards, the Eternal Depths offers hundreds of hours of content for dedicated adventurers.
The Eternal Depths can be accessed once you meet the minimum requirements for the first region, Shallowrift. You must be at least level 50 to enter. As you progress deeper, each new region requires a higher level or proficiency — reaching up to Proficiency 1400 for the final area.
While inside the Eternal Depths, a special HUD panel will appear on the right side of your screen. This panel displays your current Depth Level, the area you're in, and any active debuffs affecting your character. You can close and reopen this panel at any time.
Your Depth Level represents how deep you've progressed into the Eternal Depths. Each region has its own Area Depth Level, and the difference between your Depth Level and the area's level determines how much you are penalized — or how comfortable you are in that zone.
To increase your Depth Level, you must collect Pearls from Abyssal Oysters — rare creatures that spawn while hunting in the Eternal Depths. Each region has its own pearl type, and you need a specific number of pearls to upgrade to the next depth.
If your Depth Level is lower than the area you're exploring, you'll suffer increasingly severe penalties. The deeper you go beyond your current level, the harder everything becomes. These penalties are displayed in real-time on the HUD panel.
| Depth Difference | Damage Penalty | Defense Penalty | Vision Reduction |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 or below (safe) | None | None | None |
| +1 above your level | -15% | -20% | -10% |
| +2 above your level | -30% | -40% | -15% |
| +3 above your level | -45% | -60% | -20% |
| +4 or more | -60% (max) | -60% (max) | -25% |
The Area Name on your HUD also changes color based on difficulty: green means the area is easy for you, yellow means it matches your level, orange means it's harder, and red means it's dangerously above your depth.
Additionally, a vignette effect darkens the edges of your screen as you go deeper beyond your level, simulating the crushing pressure of the depths. This effect can be toggled off in settings if preferred.

The Eternal Depths spans 7 distinct regions, each with its own creatures, atmosphere, NPC, questline, and boss encounter. Your journey begins in the shallow waters and eventually leads you beyond the abyss — into the sky itself.
Depth Level: 1 | Required Level: 50 | NPC: Nereus
The entry point to the Eternal Depths. The salt burns differently here — the abyss stirs when something moves below. Nereus, a practical guide and craftsman, will introduce you to the dangers ahead and help you prepare for the journey.
Questline: Nereus asks you to collect 15 Salamander Fins and 15 Cyclopean Eyes from the local creatures. With these materials, he crafts the Tidebreaker Charge — an explosive device needed to blast through the sealed ancient rock that blocks the path deeper. Over 30 adventurers have died trying to break this barrier with their blades alone.
Depth Level: 3 | Required Level: 700 | NPC: Krill
A treacherous area where shifting sands swallow the unprepared. Krill, Nereus's sharp-witted cousin and a talented alchemist, resides here — but don't expect a warm welcome. He demands proof of your commitment before he'll even speak to you.
Questline: Krill demands 30 Tidebloom Meats from Tidebloom Anemones as the price of conversation. But that's only the beginning — to create the Sandslip Potion that allows safe passage through the deadly sands, you'll also need the blood of Vhal'Ruun, an Abyssal Theologian boss. Additionally, Krill needs 10 Brute Pincers (obtained from Nereus) to craft the Sunken Sanctum Key that grants access to Vhal'Ruun's tomb.
Depth Level: 5 | Required Level: 1000 | NPC: Echor
A reef that hunts. Everything here is starving. Echor, a mystical guide who is nearly blind, "sees" through vibrations in the water. He communicates through sensation rather than words, and to proceed, you must prove that you belong to this ecosystem.
Questline: You must consume three sacred fruits to attune yourself to the reef:
After consuming the fruits, an ancient magical barrier accepts you as part of the ecosystem. You must then solve the Statue Puzzle — positioning three ancient statues to show the balance between hunger and shadow — before facing the region's boss.
Depth Level: 7 | Required Level: 1800 | NPC: Nyxar
Where discarded things come when the sea doesn't know what to do with them. Nyxar, an elegant and mysterious caretaker of lost souls, finds you interesting — not everyone arrives here intact. He speaks with refined cruelty and genuine fascination.
Questline: Nyxar offers you a Soulbound Pearl — an empty vessel that must be "fed" with the souls of the creatures you slay. You must defeat a total of 12,000 creatures (6,000 Deepwalker Octopods and 6,000 Voidcore Incarnates). Each kill automatically feeds a soul into the pearl. At milestones of 1,000, 6,000, and 12,000 souls, Nyxar will comment on the pearl's growing weight and your resilience. Once full, bring the pearl to the Ice Coral — the only coral here that is both dead and alive — to proceed.
Depth Level: 9 | Required Level: 2400 | NPC: Glacius
Extreme cold where only the pure or the prepared survive. Glacius is cold and disdainful — and will initially refuse to help you because you reek of "old waste and dead sea." You must first return to Nereus to craft a Cryogenic Balm using 10 Glacial Jelly (from Glacewisp) and 20 Cold Essence (from Chillshade Horror).
Questline: Once the balm is applied, Glacius lends you the Frozen Tide Key — a literal key made of solid ice — to access the boss arena. After defeating the boss, you'll need to forge a dark pact to proceed: collect 666 Abyssal Jaws (from Deepsea Angler) and 666 Infernal Fragments (from Helltide Hare). The symbolic number is no coincidence — this is the pact of darkness.
Depth Level: 11 | Required Proficiency: 700 | NPC: Ashkal
True abandonment. The sea stops protecting. Darkness here doesn't kill — it forgets. Ashkal is a tragic, gatekeeping figure whose first and only word to you is: "No." He refuses entry because he knows what lies beyond destroys most who enter.
Questline: To survive, Ashkal crafts a Ruin Anchor — a false body made from 50 Demonic Flesh (from Demonic Sea Hare / Depthswollen Aberration) and 50 Profane Coral Shards (from Coralcrusher Ravager). The anchor acts as bait — the darkness bites it first while you slip through.
But the anchor alone isn't enough. You must embark on the Ritual of Marking — returning to all 5 previous NPCs to have them bless the anchor:
The result is the Marked Ruin Anchor — now the darkness recognizes you as something that has been tested by every layer of the depths.
Depth Level: 13 | Required Proficiency: 1400 | NPC: Aetherion
Unlike the depths, the sky doesn't break — it builds. After surviving the abyss, your journey turns upward. Aetherion, a graceful and observant celestial guide, acknowledges your growth and offers you a choice: stop here, or continue to the very end.
Questline: You must craft a Celestial Core using 30 Celestial Shells (from Cloudpunch Lobster) and 30 Aerial Tide Sacs (from Cloudtide Amphibian). Then, use the core to awaken 12 ancient artefacts scattered across the celestial realm. Each awakening is gentle — the structures remember, they don't rage. As the core absorbs each artefact's energy, it transforms into the Skyrealm Key.
Finally, you'll need the Ascension Seal — a rare drop from Skybound Squibear or Kelpbound Colossus. As Aetherion says: "Not everyone needs to go beyond. But those who do are chosen — offered by the sky itself."
The Eternal Depths features three major boss encounters, each with complex, multi-phase mechanics that require skill, awareness, and coordination. These are among the most challenging fights in BlackTalon.
Region: Hungering Reef | Difficulty: Medium
Nyxathor is a chaotic force of nature. The fight revolves around dodging tornadoes, avoiding charges, and killing pufferfish summons before they explode.
Tornado System: Nyxathor spawns tornadoes that bounce around the arena in diagonal patterns, like a DVD screensaver. The number of active tornadoes increases as the boss loses health — starting with 1 tornado at full HP and ramping up to 7 tornadoes at 10% HP. Each tornado that hits you deals 30% of your HP or Mana. Their speed also increases as the fight progresses.
Charge/Dash Attack: Nyxathor periodically charges toward players. At higher intensity (below 40% HP), the boss dashes toward up to 3 targets in sequence, dealing 50% HP/Mana damage and inflicting a 3-second stun + knockup on impact. The impact area grows from 3×3 to 5×5 tiles as the boss weakens.
Pufferfish Summons: Small minions that inflate when near players over 4 ticks. If not killed in time, they explode in a 5×5 area for 30% HP/Mana damage and apply a bleeding effect lasting 20 seconds (15% damage per tick). Kill them before they inflate!
Region: Frostspire Abyss | Difficulty: Hard
Cryothal is a brutal ice-themed encounter with freeze mechanics, falling icicles, and an enrage phase. Coordination is essential to survive.
Freeze Mechanic: Cryothal can freeze players in place, creating ice blocks on your tile. While frozen, you take escalating damage over time — starting at 2% and increasing by 2% per tick (up to 100%). In a group, allies must stand adjacent to you and channel a rescue for 5 seconds. Solo players can break free by performing a self-rescue: rotate your character clockwise (North → East → South → West) for 2 complete rotations.
Falling Icicles: Icicles rain down on random tiles throughout the fight. The intensity increases as Cryothal loses health:
| Boss HP | Icicle Interval | Tile Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 100% | 2.3 seconds | 8% of arena |
| 70% | 1.85 seconds | 10% of arena |
| 40% | 1.45 seconds | 12% of arena |
| 10% | 1.1 seconds | 15% of arena |
Tip: If an icicle hits the boss, Cryothal shrinks temporarily! After 3 icicle hits on the boss, it enters a brief 3-second stun followed by a 10-second Enrage Mode (+30% speed, +20% damage). Use the stun window wisely!
Ice Slam: When in melee range, Cryothal has a 30% chance to perform an Ice Slam — jumping to the target after a 1.5-second warning and slamming down in a 5×5 area for 50% HP damage. The slam also detonates any nearby ice blocks, each dealing an additional 50% HP/Mana. Move away from frozen tiles when you see the warning!
Region: Gate of Judgement | Difficulty: Extreme
The most challenging encounter in the Eternal Depths. Thal'Xyrr is a 4-phase fight with escalating clone spawns, deadly formation attacks, and a cumulative curse system.
Phase System: Each time you "kill" Thal'Xyrr, it triggers a fake death and enters the next phase with more health and damage:
| Phase | Clones | Health | Damage | Armor Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | 0 | 100% | 1.0× | 0% |
| Phase 2 | 1 | 120% | 1.15× | 7.5% |
| Phase 3 | 2 | 145% | 1.30× | 15% |
| Phase 4 | 3 | 175% | 1.45× | 22.5% |
Clone Mechanic: With each phase, clones of the boss spawn around the arena. Clones have a 35% chance to teleport every 3 seconds, making them unpredictable. They must be dealt with carefully — defeating a clone applies a Curse stack to your character.
Curse System (Cumulative):
| Curse Stacks | HP/Mana Reduction | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Stack | -10% | 0.75× speed |
| 2 Stacks | -25% | 0.50× speed |
| 3 Stacks | -40% | 0.20× speed |
Curse damage also spreads to nearby allies within 5 tiles, so keep your distance from cursed teammates!
Formation Attacks (Phase 4): In the final phase, Thal'Xyrr performs devastating formation attacks with its clones:
While hunting creatures in the Eternal Depths, there is a 0.25% chance (roughly 1 in 400 kills) that an Abyssal Oyster will spawn. Oysters are tough mini-bosses with significantly boosted health and damage — but they always drop valuable Pearls and Transmute Pieces.
| Region | Oyster Name | Health Multiplier | Damage Multiplier | Pearl Drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shallowrift | Shallow Pearl | 10× | 150% | 1-3 Shallow Pearls ![]() |
| Shifting Grave | Grave Clam | 12× | 160% | 1-3 Grave Pearls ![]() |
| Hungering Reef | Reef Mussel | 14× | 170% | 1-3 Reef Pearls ![]() |
| Darkwater Sanctum | Darkwater Shell | 16× | 180% | 1-3 Darkwater Pearls ![]() |
| Frostspire Abyss | Frostspire Oyster | 18× | 190% | 1-3 Frostspire Pearls ![]() |
| Abyssal Waste | Abyssal Nacre | 20× | 200% | 1-3 Abyssal Pearls ![]() |
| Gate of Judgement | Judgement Pearl | 25× | 220% | 1-3 Judgement Pearls ![]() |
Every Abyssal Oyster has a 100% chance to drop a Transmute Piece — a crafting material used in the equipment enhancement system. The tier of the piece depends on the region:
Each area can drop its own tier plus up to 2 tiers below, with the following chances:
Transmute Pieces come in 16 slot types: Helmet, Armor, Legs, Boots, Shield, Spellbook, Quiver, Axe, Two-Handed Sword, Staff, Bow, Dagger, Dagger Offhand, Lute, Pistol, and Pistol Offhand. Each piece also rolls random attributes scaled to its tier.
Each NPC represents a different aspect of the journey: Nereus teaches preparation, Krill reveals hidden costs, Echor demands belonging, Nyxar shows the price of power, Glacius tests your worth, Ashkal warns of transformation, and Aetherion offers the choice to transcend.

The Eternal Depths is a journey of transformation — from the shallow waters where you first meet Nereus, through the crushing darkness of the abyss, and finally ascending into the celestial skies. Each region tests you in a different way, and the NPCs you meet along the path become more than quest givers — they become witnesses to your growth. Good luck, adventurer.
